NEW ORLEANS JUNIOR JOURNALISM PROGRAM

JRNOLA empowers underrepresented youth ages 14 through 18 for careers in print, photography, and broadcast media, particularly young women and people of color. We offer real-world experience covering local stories of impact under the guidance of media professionals. We provide pathways to literacy, professional development, and civic engagement.

Event Coverage

The historical backbone of JRNOLA is live event coverage. Before COVID, JRNOLA students were credentialled to cover Saints games, Pelicans games, and other major sporting events—from both the sidelines and the pressbox.

Virtual Learning

Our last few months have been spent, like so many of you, on Zoom. This summer, we gave a new cohort of students a crash course in cultural reporting via our super-physically distant Interview Camp. During camp, students spoke with musicians, actors, and even a celebrity chef by video chat.

Podcast Development

JRNOLA’s newest venture is a cross-generational podcast called Society, Man. Episodes feature our students talking about big events happening in their world. (Don’t worry, we get silly sometimes too). It’s an unfiltered journey into the minds of the kids coming to eat Millennials’ collective lunch. All podcasts will be hosted on Anchor.fm‘s platform and available for subscription on all devices.
